4 lakes in Jackson County are 50 ft deep or more by Michigan DNR survey. Swains Lake is the deepest at 60 ft, then Clark Lake (50 ft), Little Wolf Lake (50 ft) and Round Lake (50 ft). The depth of the other 68 named lakes has not been surveyed; where an older state estimate exists, the register gives it as an estimate.

Clarity is the depth at which a black-and-white Secchi disk disappears from view. Across 93 lakes with satellite readings, the middle value in Jackson County is 9 ft. The clearest is Lime Lake (South) at about 15 ft, then Round Lake (15 ft), Pickerel Lake (14 ft) and South Lake (14 ft). The least clear is Gurley Lake at about 1 ft. Clarity is not a test for bacteria or algae toxins.

Michigan DNR has stocked 18 lakes in Jackson County 233 times since 1979. Walleye went into 7 lakes: Clark Lake, Crispell Lake, Lake Columbia, Portage Lake, Round Lake, Liberty Township, Vineyard Lake and Wolf Lake. The most recent stocking was 5,200 rainbow trout in Swains Lake on 31 March 2026. Farewell Lake and Swains Lake are designated trout lakes (Type C), with their own seasons and limits.
